Music in the Movies – Directors Cut – #13for2013

As is the way with movies and music, I’ve swept up what was left on the editing room floor and compiled into the following playlist which is pretty great, too. Still so much more that could be done with this theme – good work Nico!

Axel F – Harold Faltermeyer (Beverly Hills Cop)

Made (in)famous by that Cray Frog… Ahhh beeee beebb boohhhh bohhhhh. Still an absolute banger of a tune though.

New Noise – Refused (Friday Night Lights)

Sticks the tension up a notch or ten as Permian Panthers prepare to take on Carter

Falling Slowly – Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova (Once)

Lovely stuff from a great little Irish film, now a hit on Broadway.

Slow Graffiti – Belle and Sebastian (The Acid House)

Great little ditty by the ever twee Belle and Sebastian from this weird old movie based on some Irvine Welsh short stories.

Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head – B.J. Thomas (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid)

A brilliant little scene from the timeless Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Hearts on Fire – John Cafferty (Rocky IV)

One of the all time great movie training montages. Synthy and sinewy in equal measure. DRAGGOOOOOOOOOO

Hip To Be Square – Huey Lewis and the News (American Psycho)

After Paul S included the quite magnificent ‘Power of Love’ by Huey Lewis in the News, this was the next obvious choice. When I chose my theme it got cut. But this scene in American Psycho sees Christian Bale at his absolute best.

This Woman’s Work – Kate Bush (She’s Having a Baby)

It got a mention in my original blog but it’s too good to not have on a main playlist. Outstanding.

Temptation – New Order (Trainspotting)

From one of the greatest soundtracks of the last twenty years.

Together We Will Live Forever – Clint Mansell (The Fountain)

The Fountain was a strange old movie but the soundtrack saw Clint Mansell on top form, this being one of the highlights.

Dietro Casa – Ludovico Einaudi (This Is England)

The man can’t write a bad song. Also, check out Berlin Song on This Is England ’86 soundtrack (TV so didn’t include it here). It’s lovely.

Think You Can Wait – The National (Win Win)

This was a quirky little movie starring Paul Giamatti. The song is extremely good with Sharon Van Etten unsurprisingly adding a haunting vocal on top.
